For 63 years, Paralyzed Veterans of America and our 34 chapters have been working with our partners to create an America where all veterans, and people with disabilities and their families, have everything they need to thrive.

With our world-class clinical practice guidelines and consumer guides and publications such as Yes, You Can! A Guide to Self-Care for Persons with Spinal Cord Injury, we constantly strive to empower clinicians and patients alike. And, we’ve invested more than $100 million in research for treatments and a cure for paralysis.

The organization was founded by a band of spinal cord injured service members who returned home from World War II to a grateful nation, but also to a world with few solutions to the challenges they faced. They made a decision not just to live, but to live with dignity as contributors to society. They created an organization dedicated to veterans’ service, medical research, and civil rights for people with disabilities.

Today we represent more than 19,000 veterans in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico.
